Chapter 9: Growing up too fast
The day after Winterfest is Thanking Day. A day for cleaning, going to holiday service, using your gifts and thanking people for them. Olivia comes to visit, and Neo invites them to a concert of his very poor violin skills that they all suffer through pretending he's better than he is.

Sandy is getting fed up with their toilets breaking all the time thanks to dad's poor repairmanship and takes it onto herself to learn how to do it better. How hard can it be to fix a toilet so it doesn't break again in two days? Seriously?
And maybe if she actually fixes the toilet, instead of half fixing the toilet, it won't break when they have their New Year's Eve Party tomorrow? Because, really, there are priorities to these things.

For Sandy, the most important guest is not one of the very cool invited people, but Rory, and first chance they get they sneak away from the party into her and Willows room. She had hoped, but when that first kiss comes, it's magic! Everything she hoped for.

And while everyone else (including the person playing the game, ie me) is busy monitoring the party, Sandy and Rory simply sneak upstairs on their own, into her parents bed, and... well...

Unfortunately for Sandy, dad heads upstairs just as Rory sneaks downstairs, catching her just as she is attempting to sneak down herself. He is not happy about the situation and Sandy's "But dad, we love each other!" does little to calm him down as he goes from yelling at her to lecturing her on pregnancy risks and birth control until they're both extremely uncomfortable.
"I'll just talk to mum, yeah?"
"Yeah, you... yes, do that."

And while Charles is ready to throw Rory out and tell him never to come again, Candice takes a more understanding route. "It's New Year's Eve and the stroke of midnight is about to come on, he'll leave soon enough," she says, sparing her daughters a scene neither of them would have wanted and allowing for Rory and Sandy to say good night properly. To Charles' surprise, he does catch Rory asking Sandy if she wants to be his girlfriend. At least that is to his credit, he begrudgingly admits, sort of.

Once everyone is gone and everyone else is sleeping, Candice is cleaning up the kitchen while Sandy dreams away at the kitchen table. Thinking white dresses and promises made.
"He's just your first boyfriend," her mother says. "Don't get carried away, and don't rush into things too fast. You need to be ready, and not just you, he too and you're far too young still."
"Why? I love him."
"And you'll fall in love other times, with other boys eventually. I didn't meet your father until university. I had several boyfriends before then, and he had girlfriends, well girlfriend, I think.*"
"Ewww, mom! Gross!"
"Grosser than your father catching you in our bed?" Candice points out. "Seriously?"
"He didn't! Not like that."
"And if he had? What were you thinking?"
"I just-"
"Don't. Actually, don't answer that. I do not want to know everything, but I want you to know somethings. In this house, there will be no messing around with boys in our bed, is that clear? I cannot stop you from doing what you want to do elsewhere, but you will follow the rules here."
"Yes, mom."
"Good. And you're going on birth control. Tomorrow."
"But mom, we never went that far!"
"Doesn't matter, although I'm glad to hear it, but this is not debatable. You are not getting pregnant."
"I will marry him one day."
Candice sighs. "Perhaps you will, but right now you're a teenager, don't hurry to grow up. It's a trap of bills and endless work hours! Now go to bed, young lady."

Because for Sandy and Willow, the main thing on their mind is that they've been allowed to host a party tomorrow. All their friends, some really cool adults like Summer and Liberty, and parents who has promised to stay in the living room the entire time and keep Neo there so he won't ruin their party. Perfection!
They spend the day getting ready with some chosen friends, chatting, laughing, putting on clothes and make up.

Then Willow makes some food for everyone, salsa, nachos, some cookies, while Sandy moves the boombox to the kitchen counter where they're all gathering.
