Chapter 27: A Wedding Story to Remember (Sunny)
It's a season of romance in San Sequoia. Jamie and Christmas has started with regular date at the Anchorpoint club, a local bar, and Sunny and Carolyn is making good use of the hot tub she insisted on getting for the very small back yard.

One evening Willow and Derek comes over from Willow Creek to visit and get to know Jamie better. As always Christmas loves it when the back yard is filled with people.

And as day turns into night, they bring out a lantern and stay outside for the rest of the night.

Christmas also makes sure Jamie gets to spend some time with her mother and Derek on his own. They seem to get along well.

But while Jamie gets to meet Willow and Derek in a small setting, Sunny knows things will be different for him. Should he choose to propose to Carolyn, the demands on him will be very different. And yet, he cannot imagine life without her, and as they are both nearing adult age, he feels more than ready to take that next step. So on just an average morning, before work, Sunny goes down on one knee and ask if she will have him.

It's a great day for Carolyn. Going to work with new passion she returns with a brand new promotion.

That evening they all gathered in Jamie and Christmas's garden to celebrate Carolyns promotion and Jamie getting two children's stories published. Jamie's sister has shown up as well. It's a great night.

It's also the quiet before the storm that is a Landgraab wedding. As spring turn to summer, Carolyn and Sunny head off to Oasis Springs for the week long celebration that will mark their wedding, starting with a family gathering where the Landgraabs and the Springs will meet for dinner at the Landgraab residence. It's a bit stiff at first.

But Sunny has made it a point to make an effort. He sits down to chat with Zion, who is married to Carolyn's half sister (the hacker).

And after a while Malcolm Landgraab himself comes to join them. He even has a sense of humour as he tells Sunny that he'd better be good to his girl or he'll be in concrete boots in a deep harbour. Such a funny joke. He hadn't expected him to make fun of the fact that he's a mob boss so openly. It was clearly a joke. Clearly. Of course.

Dinner is served in the dining room, which is surprisingly far from the kitchen.
"Isn't that impractical?"
"Why?"
"Well to go to the kitchen and then carry it all through the house?"
"What do you mean? Why would we go into the kitchen in the first place?"
"Oh, right, of course." Perhaps he is a bit out of his depth.

Sunny is happy when he and Carolyn spend most of the day at the park the next day. They order flowers for the wedding, swim in the pool, relax in the sun loungers and then Sunny lounge in the kiddie pool while the childish Carolyn plays in the new water feature.

That night they host their engagement party at the Solarflare Lounge.

"Sis, do you have to wear black to everything?"
"Of course, it's my signature color."
"But it's my wedding!"
"I wore black to my own wedding. Be glad I'm dressing up at all."

Christmas and Jamie, also in town for the evening, move aside and practise their ball room dancing.

While the rest of the guests continue talking and drinking.

The next night, Sunny is glad to get some time away from the Landgraabs. This night, his old friends has chosen to take him to a bachelor party at the Rattlesnake bar while Christmas has taken it on herself to arrange a hen night for Carolyn.
There is dancing, drinking, flirting - all in all a fun night.

The bartender seems to be new at her work however. She drops more bottles than she makes drinks.

But when Lauryn loses her patience with her, Jamie tells her off in no uncertain terms. Sunny never took the time to realise how mean she can be, and how disagreeable her personality really can be. It's a bit sad to realise how much time he wasted on pining for her. It's also a bit sad to realise that out of the friends here today, only Jamie really knows anything about his life as it is, and he in turn knows nothing about theirs. It's remarkable how little he has in common with any of them.

The following day is the big day, and most of the day is lost in preparations - especially for Carolyn who Sunny is not allowed to see all day. But then it's time, finally, and they all show up to the Oasis Springs Wedding Venue. The place is beautiful, with an outdoor wedding area that is beautiful (but maybe not all too practical in the hot desert).
But Sunny couldn't care less about the venue as he stands there waiting. His mind is fully focused on his bride.

Who needs to persuade her father to get up from his seat at the fountain to walk her down the isle. But then he does, and Carolyn is more nervous than happy right at that moment. She's been at the hairdresser all morning getting extensions to her hair and had her make up done and now she is just hoping that everything will go smoothly.

And then Sunny begins to speak and she forgets her nerves, the heat of the day, or the people watching, and get lost in the moment and right then and there, as they promise forever, there is no one but the two of them that matters.

They even succeed with their spousal kiss.

And then the party can really begin. There is dinner, during which everyone goes for the desert first and skip the roast duck.

Her father gives a speech, beautiful and oddly threatening at the same time and then everyone toast their happiness.

And then it's time to cut the cake.

And have the first dance:

And as others join them on the dancefloor, and the party relaxes a bit more, Sunny is just happy the party is over and the rest of their lives can begin. Carolyn is oddly grateful that no one started doing push ups in the middle of the ceremony, or died from heat stroke while outside in their formal wear. It's the little things, really, that makes a wedding successful.

And for both of them, the story really isn't the wedding, but the life that starts when the wedding is over, starting with a honeymoon in the beautiful Tartosa.
